Did you know that sand is one of the most used materials in the construction industry? Sand is an important ingredient when a strong foundation is needed. Often mixed with lime or cement, it has a compactable property that is more beneficial than one might think. RAC has a huge variety of sand, so if you’re thinking of adding sand to your next project, here are a few options that RAC Materials provides and how they can be used!
Bank Sand
Bank Sand is one of the most fine-grain types of sand that is available. With its soft texture, a few sharp particles, such as rocks or pebbles, are blended in. This product is great for filling areas and raising elevation, which can also act as a base for concrete.
White Concrete Sand
White Concrete sand, sometimes referred to as mortar sand or masonry sand, is another fine-grain sand that is predominately used in creating concrete or mortar. With this sand being super fine-grained, it is great for laying foundations, bricklaying, paving slabs, and rendering walls and floors.
Brown Concrete Sand
Brown concrete sand is different than the other sands that we offer. Seeing that it is larger-grained sand, it is similar to White Concrete sand, but these two have different main purposes. While this sand can be used as a filling material, it is mainly used in topsoil mixtures to improve drainage.
If you’re not mixing concrete and are curious about how you can utilize sand in your life, it can be used for other things, especially in landscaping! If you live in an area where clay is in your topsoil, you can add sand to your grass to keep the soil healthy and promote grass growth. It can be used to fill up holes in the yard and to cover tree roots to protect your lawn mower blades. Mixing your sand with topsoil can be beneficial to your yard or landscaping efforts to fight erosion, or if you have smaller potted plants, it can be mixed to prevent root rot. Using sand in these methods helps cushion the roots of your plants, retain water, and strengthen the ground around your plants.
At RAC Materials, we have the sand and aggregate that you need for any of your projects. Whether it’s big or small, we are here to help; we load for pick up, we deliver for construction companies, and even provide concrete disposal services.
